Sorry I have not written anything for a while. I have been moving. My landlord asked me to move out because his daughter wants to live in the house. So I had to pack up and move on. Robin found a nice townhouse not too far away from where I was. It has 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, and is slightly cheaper.
I hired a moving company to help me. Cost me $400, but was worth it. I don't think my back could have taken the strain of moving the fridge and other heavy items. I could not believe that their truck as filled with stuff! I don't know what all was in there. I did not know that I have so much crap. Time to lighten the load.
Robin has moved with me. Katie is staying put in the old house until the last weekend, then moving to her own place closer to the city. So for now it will be just Robin and I sharing the new place.
The new place faces east, away from the ocean. It is a block away from the beach, over a slight rise. What that means is that I can no longer see or hear the ocean. I also can't watch the weather heading out way since it normally travels west to east off the ocean. I will miss all that.
The place was a mess when we moved in. The prior tenants were the tenants from hell according to the land lord. He told me that he had to take them to court to evict them for failure to pay rent. They also trashed the place. They left all kinds of things, including a 17 foot ski boat with a 250hp outboard motor, all on a trailer! They must have left in a hurry.
They also left more interesting artifacts that have to be hauled away. In addition to the boat, they left televisions, bread makers, and most interesting, grow lights. Grow lights are the specialized lighting systems used to grow plants, marijuana in particular, indoors. On moving day a police detective walked in the place while I was there and demanded to see some guy I never heard of. I told the detective I don't know anything. He looked around and could see that I was moving in, so he left.
This has me a little worried. It is obvious that these guys were a bit dodgy, probable one step ahead of the law. I'm concerned that they may have left some debts behind with people who are not so nice. They might show up in the middle of the night at my new place looking to collect from the old tenants. Well. At least the place has an alarm and good locks.
The move has me beat to a pulp. We are mostly settled in the new place. My new bedrooms is a lot smaller than the last one. So I am still trying to figure out how to fit everything in and still have room to walk. I have not even attempted to set up the office. I don't have the energy.
The place doesn't have any cooling, or heating. I was able to move my old gas heater from the old house to the new one. But it only heats the living room. In summer it may be hell. The windows are not the kind that I can put an airconditioner in. I guess that I will end up outside on the hammock on hot summer nights.
I'm headed off to California on Friday, so I have to finish moving and pack for the trip. I won't be able to update the blog for a couple of weeks until I get back.
